Police search for shooting suspect believed to be in Anaheim motel

The Rainbow Inn motel in Anaheim and other nearby buildings were evacuated early Monday, Jan. 4, as police searched for a suspect in a shooting that left a man critically wounded.

It was just before 6 a.m. when officers responding to another call heard gunshots, Anaheim police Sgt. Jacob Gallacher said.

They determined the shots came from the Rainbow Inn, a motel on Beach Boulevard near Ball Road.

Outside the hotel they found a man in his 30s who had been shot in a leg, Gallacher said.

Officers provided first aid, including putting on a tourniquet, and rushed him to a hospital. He went into surgery and was in critical condition, Gallacher said.

Police did not immediately know what led to the man being shot or who the suspect is but believed the culprit could be in a motel room.

The motel was evacuated as SWAT searched the area and some surrounding buildings were also cleared out, police said.

The portion of Beach adjacent to the motel was closed off to traffic as police searched.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
