Police say drug deal gone bad in Irvine results in 1 stabbed, 1 arrested

An 18-year-old suspected of stabbing a man at a park in Irvine while trying to steal fentanyl from him was arrested, police said Sunday, Feb. 6.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, Irvine Police Lt. Bill Bingham said. He had arranged a meeting at Orchard Park, 1 Van Buren, to sell fentanyl pills to Irvine resident Eric Quintanilla on Friday, Feb. 4.

They were seated in the victim’s vehicle at about 1 p.m., when Quintanilla allegedly demanded the pills without payment. When the victim refused, the suspect stabbed the victim in the neck several times, Bingham said.

“Quintanilla fled the scene on foot and the victim returned to Santa Ana, where he sought treatment by paramedics,” Bingham said.

The victim reported the stabbing to Santa Ana police. Detectives located Quintanilla at his home on Saturday. He was booked at the Orange County Jail and was being held without bail, police said.

The stabbing victim potentially faces charges related to drug sales, Bingham said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to contact Irvine police at mmahmood@cityofirvine.org.
