Police pursuit ends with crash in Santa Ana leaving 1 injured, 2 in custody

Police in Santa Ana pursued the driver and passenger of a vehicle after a suspected traffic violation for about 10 minutes before it crashed, leaving another motorist with minor injuries Tuesday,  June 1.

Police attempted to pull over a vehicle occupied by two people at about 7:20 p.m. in the area of 5th and Laurel Streets, Santa Ana Police Commander Andrew Alvarez said. The driver failed to pull over for officers, who then gave chase.

The driver of the pursued vehicle blew through stop signs and reached speeds of roughly 60 mph, Alvarez said. The motorist wound up crashing into another vehicle, then a tree near Raitt Street and Segerstrom Avenue at about 7:30 p.m.

The driver and passenger involved in the pursuit were taken into custody without further incident,  Alvarez said. The person in the vehicle they struck suffered only minor injuries.
