Person shot on 55 Freeway in Orange; highway’s northbound lanes closed for investigation

A person was hospitalized Friday morning, May 21, after a shooting on the 55 Freeway in Orange prompted authorities to close the northbound lanes for the investigation.

No information was immediately available on the victim or whether the shooting was related to the recent spree of BB or pellet gun attacks on Southern California freeway motorists.

Traffic on the northbound 55 was being diverted onto the westbound 22 Freeway, said Officer Florentino Olivera, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

The transition from the eastbound 22 to the northbound 55 was closed. The northbound 55 is closed north of Chapman Avenue, as are the northbound Chapman onramps.

Investigators formed a line the width of the freeway, searching for evidence of the shooting, which was reported at 8:10 a.m.

The closures were expected to be in place through at least midday, the CHP said.
