Pedestrian struck, killed in Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 54-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed in Huntington Beach late Friday night, authorities said.

Officers responded to the intersection of Warner Avenue and Bolsa Chica Street at 11:05 p.m. Friday and found the pedestrian down and suffering from extensive injuries, according to Sgt. Matthew Austin of the Huntington Beach Police Department.

A preliminary investigation showed the 66-year-old driver of a gray 2018 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound on Warner Avenue when his vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was crossing northbound at Bolsa Chica Street, Austin said. It was unclear if the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Austin said.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the crash.

The gender and name of the victim were not disclosed.

Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to call Traffic Investigator D. Demetre at 714-536-5670.
