Pedestrian killed, driver arrested after suspected DUI crash in Stanton area

A suspected impaired driver was arrested in the Stanton area early Sunday morning after the SUV she was driving fatally struck a woman crossing Katella Avenue, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash occurred in the street at 8901 Katella Avenue, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said.

The victim, identified by the Orange County coroner as 31-year-old Desiree Robles, was crossing Katella outside of a crosswalk at around 1:30 a.m. when the SUV headed eastbound hit her.

Carrie Braun, the spokeswoman, said Robles was hit by the SUV on the Stanton side of the border. Her body was found in an unincorporated county area in the Anaheim-Stanton area.

When Anaheim police, Sheriff’s deputies and Orange County fire paramedics arrived at the scene, Robles was already dead.

The driver, who was not immediately identified, stayed at the scene. But Braun said an initial investigation led deputies to believe the driver was impaired. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
