Pedestrian from Lake Forest fatally struck by big rig in Temecula area

A pedestrian was struck by a big rig and killed Saturday in an intersection in the Temecula area.

The crash occurred just before 4 p.m. at Winchester and Murrieta Hot Springs roads, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The driver of a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer made a right turn on a green light from westbound Murrieta Hot Springs to northbound Winchester Road when the pedestrian stepped out onto the marked crosswalk on Winchester Road, according to a California Highway Patrol collision report.

The vehicle collided with the pedestrian and rolled over the victim, leading to fatal injuries.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said. The victim was identified as a 54-year-old woman from Lake Forest. Her name was not immediately released.
