Outages in Orange County leave thousands without power

More than 3,700 customers were without power because of two outages that hit Orange County Monday morning, Oct. 15, during heavy Santa Ana winds.

Southern California Edison reported that 2,146 customers in Aliso Viejo and 1,601 in North Tustin were without power at around 6 a.m.

Crews were trying to determine what caused the Aliso Viejo outage, while weather was blamed for the one in North Tustin.

Officials did not have an estimated time of when the power would be back on for those customers, who are mostly residents.

Other smaller outages were scattered around the county, including one in Lake Forest affecting 134 customers. That one was expected to be fixed by 9 a.m.

The outages come as northeast winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour swirled in parts of the county and will continue through Monday. Some gusts could reach 80 miles per hour below passes and canyons near the coastal slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

The winds are expected to continue on Tuesday but with weaker speeds 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts to 45.
