Menorah lighting to be held at Fashion Island

Dr. Jacob Eisenbach, a 93-year-old Holocaust survivor and author, will light the Menorah at Fashion Island’s Hanukkah event at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12.
The ceremony will be held at the Fashion Island Atrium Garden, 401 Newport Center Drive.
Scheduled music performances include the Friendship Circle’s special needs children’s choir, the Tarbut v’Torah day school choir and the musical group Los Judios Locos, the Chabad Center for Jewish Life said in a statement.
Visitors will receive holiday gifts and treats, Hanukkah crafts, face painting and balloon animals. Participants are encouraged to bring a gift for the community toy drive for underprivileged children.
Eisenbach is originally from Lodz, Poland and was 16 at the start of World War II. The Nazis built a ghetto with a barbed wire fence and watchtowers after occupying his hometown, organizers said.
After his father was deported to Auschwitz, Eisenbach and his younger brother went into hiding. They were later found taken to a camp where they worked in a munitions factory.
As the tide of the war began to change, the Nazis slowly left the camp and the survivors were able to leave, organizers said.
