Memorial events planned for 18-year-old Corona woman killed in movie theater shooting

Two memorial events for Rylee Goodrich, the Corona 18-year-old killed in the July 26 shooting at the Regal Edwards movie theater, have been scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

A remembrance and prayer will be held from 6:30 p.m to 8 p.m. Friday at New Beginnings Community Church at 1769 Western Ave. in Norco.

Additionally, a paddle out at Seal Beach was being planned, her father, Dave Goodrich, said on his Instagram page.

And at 8 p.m. on Saturday, a candlelight vigil and memorial will be held at the movie theater where Goodrich died. The theater is at the Crossings at Corona, 2650 Tuscany St., Corona.

A vigil also is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday for 19-year-old Anthony Barajas, at Mater Dei High, 1202 W. Edinger Ave., Santa Ana. Barajas was on life support Friday.

Barajas, a 2019 Mater Dei graduate, was on a date with Goodrich, who graduated from Corona High in 2020. He was a star on the school’s soccer team and theater stage and has thousands of followers on TikTok.

Corona police said Joseph Jimenez shot the victims in an unprovoked attack. Jimenez, 20, was arrested Tuesday after witness statements made him a suspect. A search of his home found a gun of the same caliber used in the shooting, police said. Police also said they found Goodrich’s wallet in his car.

Jimenez was arrested at his home near Corona on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and robbery with a gun. He was expected to be charged Friday morning and appear in court to enter pleas in the afternoon. He was being held at Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

Jimenez has no previous adult criminal record, police said.

Jimenez attended Home Gardens Academy, a K-8 school, from 2006 to 2015, and Santiago High from 2015 to 2019 before graduating, said Evita Tapia-Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Corona-Norco Unified School District.

GoFundMe pages have been established to assist the families of Goodrich and Barajas with expenses.
