Mark Singer-designed Laguna Beach home, 15 years in the making, sells for $17.5 million

A newly built Laguna Beach house that Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles” featured earlier this month has sold for $17.5 million.

It was designed by the late architect Mark Singer and took more than 15 years to complete.

Sited on a near half-acre, rocky promontory, the 5,042-square-foot, contemporary-style residence brought in 30% less than the initial $25 million ask in April. And yet, the Multiple Listing Service shows it’s currently the all-time, most expensive house sold in guard-gated Three Arch Bay.

“We are excited to close this year with a record-breaking sale, especially on this breathtaking property,” said Andy Stavros of Douglas Elliman, the co-listing agent. “An architectural, new construction home such as this is a rare find in Laguna Beach, specifically on a bluff. We are excited for the new owners to begin enjoying everything their home has to offer.”

The house has five bedroom suites, seven bathrooms and walls of floor-to-ceiling glass that frame 270-degree ocean and Catalina Island views from throughout the three-level home.

Josh Altman, who, along with Altman Brothers’ Matt Altman also shares the listing, likened it to a “cruise ship” during a recent episode of “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles.”

Take the stairs or ride the elevator from the lower level’s office and entertainment area to the top floor primary suite. Features of the primary suite include a fireplace, walk-in closet and a glass-enclosed wet room with a rain shower and a soaking tub.

The towering foyer leads to the open living, dining and gourmet kitchen space with two balconies.

A seaward yard includes a covered terrace with a built-in barbecue area, spool and lawn. A mature landscape surrounds the house to ensure privacy.

Stavros shared the listing with the Altman Brothers’ Josh and Matt Altman. Monica Fita of First Team Real Estate represented the buyer.

County records show that another house stood on the property when it sold in 2008 for $8.65 million. Stavros said his clients told him this was the last design that Singer worked on before he died.

Singer succumbed to pancreatic cancer in September 2015 at 67.
