LOS ALAMITOS At a special meeting Monday, Dec. 4, the City Council unanimously voted to appoint Mark Chirco to fill the seat left vacant after Josh Wilson resigned, avoiding a costly special election.
Three others were also interviewed: Pete Carvajal, Dean Grose and Greg Shellenbergar.
Chirco, an attorney, and his wife have two children in Los Alamitos Unified. His first council meeting will be Dec. 18, when the council will select a new mayor.
He will serve through 2018, at which point he can run for election, officials said.
