Man shot to death in Anaheim; suspect arrested

A 20-year-old man was arrested Friday, April 16, after Anaheim police say he killed a man on Thursday.

Officers responded at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday to the 1700 block of West Glenoaks Avenue, west of Euclid Street, where they found Anaheim resident Jefferson Anthony Davis, 30, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to Sgt. Shane Carringer of the Anaheim Police Department.

Davis was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Investigators identified Anaheim resident Richard Flores as a person of interest in the shooting, Carringer said. Flores was located at about 6 a.m. Friday traveling in a vehicle in Fullerton, but he fled when authorities attempted to make contact with him.

Anaheim police SWAT units found Flores at about 10 a.m. in the 600 block of South Brookhurst Road, between Orangethorpe Avenue and Valencia Drive, Carringer said.

Flores was arrested without further incident and was identified as the shooter, Carringer said.

Flores was booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility on suspicion of murder, and his bail was set at $1 million.

Detectives said they do not believe the shooting was gang-related but declined to discuss other possible motives or the evidence that led to the identification of Flores as the suspect, Carringer said.

Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227.
