Man in wheelchair hit and killed in Santa Ana

A man in a wheelchair was fatally struck while crossing the street in Santa Ana on Tuesday morning.

After receiving a call at 7:24 a.m., police officers found the man in the roadway at 100 N. Euclid Street with major injuries. Orange County Fire Authority personnel treated him but he died at the scene.

An investigation showed the man was crossing Euclid Street in a wheelchair when he was struck by a vehicle headed north. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative, the Santa Ana Police Department said.

Alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the crash, police said.
