Man in wheelchair dies after he’s hit by 2 vehicles in Fountain Valley

A man attempting to cross a street in a wheelchair died after he was struck by a minivan and an SUV in Fountain Valley early Saturday morning, July 10, authorities said.

Fountain Valley police were called to the area of Euclid Street and Warner Avenue just past 2:30 a.m. , Lt. Kham Vang said.

The pedestrian was found in the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene, Vang said. He was identified by police as a man in his 50s.

The man was attempting to cross Euclid Street westbound along Warner Avenue when he was first hit by a minivan traveling northbound on Euclid, Vang said. The pedestrian was then hit by the SUV, also traveling northbound.

The drivers of both vehicles stopped and cooperated with investigators, Vang said. It was determined they were not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

It wasn’t immediately known if the pedestrian was in a crosswalk, or if he was crossing on a red or green light, when the collisions occurred.
