Authorities on Monday, Oct. 18, released the name of a homicide victim who was killed over the weekend following a fight near the Newport Beach Pier.
He was identified as 59-year-old Ruben Gonzalez, Orange County Sheriff’s Sgt. Todd Hylton said. He was found unconscious near the pier at 12:03 a.m. Saturday, Newport Beach police said in a news release.
Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he got into some sort altercation with a person who was arrested nearby. The suspect’s identity had not been announced by officials as of Monday evening..
Further details were not immediately released.
