Fullerton Police Sgt. Jon Radus said officers responded at 8:06 p.m. to find a man, who appeared to be in his 50s, with significant injuries in the No. 1 lane of eastbound Orangethorpe. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local trauma center. His name wasn’t immediately released.
The preliminary investigation showed a 2002 Buick LeSabre, driven by a 64-year-old woman, was traveling eastbound on Orangethorpe near Ray Avenue when the car hit the pedestrian, who was crossing southbound but was not in a crosswalk.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. It did not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, police said.
Earlier Wednesday, a pickup truck struck a pedestrian near Magnolia Avenue and the 91 Freeway in Fullerton, sending one person to the hospital and prompting temporary road closures.
Radus said the pedestrian in that incident was sent to a local trauma center in critical condition as a result of the collision. Details about the extent of the victim’s injuries weren’t immediately available.
Authorities shut down of portions of Magnolia and Orangethorpe near the 5 and 91 freeway interchange at roughly 6 p.m. near the scene of the collision, affecting freeway ramps as well. That accident happened at Magnolia and Buckingham Street, south of Orangethorpe, Radus said.
