Man dies after police fire at him in Santa Ana near DMV

A man succumbed to his injuries after he was shot by police Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Santa Ana, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. at the 100 block of S. McClay Street, near the Santa Ana Department of Motor Vehicles office and the man died shortly after at a local hospital, according to Santa Ana police spokesperson Sgt. Maria Lopez. Lopez said officers who had been patrolling the area approached a vehicle with three people inside, but it was not clear what prompted the shooting.

A firearm was located on the scene following the shooting, Lopez added.

It was not immediately clear whether the firearm was a factor in the shooting.

Lopez could not confirm how many officers were present during the shooting, but said none were injured.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the shooting, according to Lopez.
