The Orange County Coroner’s Office has identified Luciano Gonzalez Munoz as the man who died Saturday, Dec. 19, while helping to dig a hole for a swimming pool in Orange.
There was no information available Friday, Dec. 25, on where Munoz, 45, lived. He was part of a crew excavating in the backyard of a home in the 6200 block of Cliffway Drive.
Munoz was initially buried shoulder deep in dirt when firefighters arrived at the backyard of a home after getting an 11 a.m. call about the soil collapse. They found his fellow workers trying to dig him out from the bottom of a hole in the ground about 10 feet deep. Munoz was able to talk but had difficulty breathing.
Firefighters took over, but, a second collapse completely engulfed Munoz. His body was recovered about five hours later.
