Man barricades in Anaheim, found unresponsive and dies, police say

A man barricaded himself in a bathroom at an Anaheim apartment on Sunday night, Sept. 12, and was found unresponsive by officers before dying at a hospital, an official said.

The standoff in the 2600 block of West Lincoln Avenue lasted about five hours. Police have not released the man’s name pending notification of his relatives.

It wasn’t clear if the man lived in the apartment building.

A 911 caller reported an explosion in a room there just after 6 p.m. Sunday, Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer said.

A witness told firefighters there was an armed man inside. Police were called. Officers determined the man was barricaded in the bathroom, Carringer said

The man stopped communicating with police negotiators after 11 p.m., the sergeant said, with police determining the man needed medical aid and forced entry.

It is unclear why the man died.
