Los Olivos Park orchestrates playground fun

Irvine unveiled Los Olivos Community Park on Saturday, March 2.

Rain dampened the celebration a little, but during pauses in the showers kids tried out the new music-themed playground and residents wandered the 6,700-square-foot community center. The park is at 101 Alfonso.

While burning off energy on the playground’s jungle gym and slide, children can also play several outdoor musical instruments, including a large xylophone and pipe bongos. The 12.5-acre park also has baseball and soccer fields, a basketball court and four tennis courts.

The community center boasts a large multipurpose room, kitchen and patio, that will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Classes for all ages, camps and other recreational activities will be offered out of the center.
