Investigators are looking for a man and his female companion in connection with a robbery in which a woman’s necklace was snatched off her neck in front of her home, Irvine police said.
At about 6:20 p.m. the victim was about to open the front door of her home, off Jamboree Road and Champion Way, when a suspect ripped the necklace off her neck and fled, said Kim Mohr, spokesperson for the Irvine Police Department.
The stolen necklace is worth $2,500.
“The victim had previously been shopping in Artesia, where she saw the suspect, who was accompanied by a female,” Mohr said in a statement.
Detectives think the suspect followed the victim to her home.
The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s with a slim build and 6 feet tall. He has short, dark hair and was last seen wearing a faded red Air Jordan hooded sweatshirt and white pants. His female companion is about 5-feet 1-inch tall and has black hair and brown eyes. Police released photographs of the pair taken on surveillance cameras at the Artesia shopping center.
The female companion was wearing a gray Adidas shirt and light-colored shorts.
Anyone with information about the suspect or the female companion is asked to call Irvine police Detective Keith Herter at 949-724-7183 or via email at kherter@cityofirvine.org.
