Inmate dies at OC Jail; cause of her death to be determined

An inmate was found unresponsive in her cell Wednesday morning, triggering an in-custody death review, officials said.

Jade Castellanos, 44,was booked on May 9, 2022 by the Huntington Beach Police Department on suspicion of child endangerment, violation of a restraining order, and driving under the influence.

Castellanos was housed alone in her cell, and her death does not appear to be suspicious, a news release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.

A toxicology report and an independent autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office will conduct the review of the in-custody death, as is protocol.
