The Federal Reserve is in a tough spot.

Inflation is soaring and it’s the central bank’s job is to tame it — but that effort requires some less-than-popular actions.

In six weeks, the Fed has twice pushed up the interest rates it controls. Related hikes in financing costs have chilled housing and other industries.

So what are the odds the Fed can pull off this high-wire act — significantly moderate inflation without creating an economic meltdown?
