Homicide suspected in fatal Westminster crash

Investigators suspect a driver who fatally struck a person found dead in a driveway in Westminster early Monday, Jan. 3, may have intentionally hit the victim.

Police were initially responding to reports of a possible-hit-and run collision on the 5600 block of Walt Street at 5:22 a.m., Westminster Police Commander Kevin MacCormick said. Responding officers found a person lying in a driveway of a home.

His identity was withheld pending the notification of relatives. Investigators later found evidence to suggest he may have been struck on purpose by a motorist who had fled, MacCormick said.

A description of the driver or vehicle was not immediately released. Police were examining footage from nearby doorbell cameras and attempting to contact potential witnesses, MacCormick said.

Yellow tape blocked off the scene of the collision near the intersection of Walt and Edwards streets. Evidence markers were placed in front of a home,  where a portion of a white picket fence next to a driveway had been knocked over.

Officials asked anyone with information about the collision and possible homicide to contact Westminster police detectoves at 714-548-3759.
