Thousands of people are expected to turn out along the route and on freeway overpasses to pay tribute to firefighter Cory Iverson on Sunday, Dec. 17, as his funeral procession travels to San Diego.
Iverson, 32, an engineer with a state fire engine strike team based in San Diego, was killed Thursday, Dec. 14, while battling the Thomas Fire in Ventura County. He died from burns and smoke inhalation. He is survived by his pregnant wife and a 2-year-old daughter.
Before working in San Diego, Iverson was assigned to a helicopter unit at Cal Fire’s Hemet-Ryan Air Attack Base in Riverside County.
The procession will depart around 10 a.m. from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office and will travel southbound on Highway 10. It will arrive in San Diego at around 1:20 p.m.

11:26: cross through the 605/210 Interchange on the 210 Freeway
11:34: transition to Highway 57 South
11:38: cross the 10 Freeway into the city of Pomona and will transition to Highway 71 South
11:43: cross into San Bernardino County
11:45: exit Highway 71 to a temporary staging area in the city of Chino
