Head-on crash in Fullerton leaves 21-year-old woman dead, three others injured

A woman died in Fullerton and three others were badly injured after a truck veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into the sedan she was driving Wednesday morning, Jan. 27, officials said.

Preliminary investigation suggests a black Chevrolet Silverado was moving erratically on northbound Magnolia Avenue when it traveled into southbound lanes near Valencia Drive, Fullerton police said in a news release. It collided head-on with a white Toyota Corolla before flipping over and striking a Ford Edge. Meanwhile, the Corolla spun out and hit a Nissan Altima.

Firefighters were seen using saws and heavy equipment to free the occupants of the wrecked Toyota while the Chevy that crashed into it sat upside down in the middle of the intersection in footage recorded at the scene. The 21-year-old driver of the crushed sedan was then taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Her identity was not immediately released.

The 18-year-old woman in the passenger seat of the Corolla, as well as the 36-year old man driving the Silverado and the 50 year-old man behind the wheel of the Edge, remained hospitalized as of 2:45 p.m., FPD Lt. Jon Radus said. Their injuries were serious, but not considered life threatening.

Investigation into the multi-vehicle crash was ongoing Wednesday afternoon, Radus said. It was not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

Authorities asked anyone with information regarding the incident to call FPD Accident Investigator H. Barclay at 714-738-6815. Tips can also be left with Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227 or https://occrimestoppers.org/.
