Hazmat team called for car displaying ‘Suicide by Gas’ signs in Pomona

Pomona police are investigating the apparent suicide of an adult male Saturday afternoon inside an automobile that displayed several signs taped to the windows that read “Suicide by Gas”.
At 3:42 p.m., Pomona police received a radio call about a strong odor coming from a vehicle parked in the 3700 block of North Garey Avenue, the department said in a statement.

Officers called in a bomb squad and hazmat team, said Lt. Jaime Gutierez. The vehicle was parked in an area that is mostly commercial, although there is some housing nearby.
Early Sunday, police said in a statement that no explosives were detected in the vehicle. An evacuation in the area was canceled and it was reopened to the public.
The victim in the incident has not been identified and the investigation is continuing, police said.
