From the Rose Parade history to the music, Twitter had a lot of thoughts

A reimagined 2021 Rose Parade combing history with pre-recorded musical performances in a two-hour TV special took the place of the annual live parade that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

People took to Twitter to draw comparisons to past parades and the stark difference of starting the new year absent of the annual commercial-free celebration of floats, equestrians and marching bands.

From past grand marshal Gary Sinise opening the show standing alone on an empty street to the pre-recorded musical acts from Lady A to Sheryl Crow, these were some of the reactions via social media.

Some weren’t exactly thrilled with the amount of commercial breaks, but many were pleased to get a history lesson and behind the scenes looks at what goes into creating the Rose Parade.
