Driver pleads guilty to manslaughter in alcohol-fueled Seal Beach crash

SANTA ANA — A 34-year-old man has pleaded guilty to an alcohol-fueled crash that killed a woman in Seal Beach.

The collision occurred at about 3:40 p.m., Nov. 4, 2021, at Seal Beach Boulevard and St. Andrews Drive, near the Leisure World retirement community, according to Lt. Nick Nicholas of the Seal Beach Police Department.

Orange County Fire Authority paramedics were called to the scene and rushed three people to a hospital for medical treatment. Both drivers were taken to a hospital, along with a passenger.

A woman who had been driving one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the hospital, Nicholas said. She was identified on the criminal complaint as Guadalupe I.

German Juarez of Los Angeles on Thursday pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated without gross negligence, one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than the legal limit of .08%, according to court records.

Juarez also admitted sentence enhancements for allegedly inflicting great bodily injury on two victims.

Juarez was scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 21 in the West Justice Center in Westminster.

The criminal complaint alleges Juarez had a blood-alcohol level of .15% and failed to stop at a red light.
