A Palm Springs home designed by modernist architect William Krisel is on the market for $1.2 million, and it’s a retro lover’s dream.
The circa 1961 residence in the Little Tuscany neighborhood dubbed the “Tiki House” has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and 1,533 square feet of living space. It comes furnished.
County documents show Palm Springs-based designer Tracy Turco and her husband, real estate developer Jerry Turco, picked up the property in 2019 for $560,000.
Tracy Turco, who is also a hotelier, said in an email that she “designed every inch of it in retro vintage 1970s style” mixed with modern luxuries. Since then, it’s become a Modernism Week tour “favorite” and has also been featured in the pages of Dwell and Atomic Ranch. It also appeared on NBC’s “Open House TV.”
And the vintage throwback vibe extends to both inside and out.
A yellow and orange zigzag runs along the length of the home’s brown exterior. Tiki totems grace the front orange doors that open into the entrance courtyard under orange overhead beams.
Inside the house, there’s an explosion of colors, playful wallpaper patterns and fabrics. A brown floor-to-ceiling fireplace anchors the living room where an oversized circle-print wallpaper in bright yellow, chocolate brown and burnt orange draws the eye.
The living room connects to the kitchen that’s “straight out of the Brady Bunch with orange and green laminex leading the color charge,” according to the advertisement at Airbnb for the Turcos’ desert getaway, offered for more than $600 a night.
Next to the kitchen is the dining room. It’s dressed in bamboo furniture, mid-century lighting and eye-catching wallpaper. Art by Shag, Peter Max and Olan (among other luminaries) decorates the house.
Outside, there’s a heated pool and spa and a tiki hut with a thatched roof. An additional bathroom is accessible from the backyard pool area.

Tracy Turco originates from New York. Since relocating to Palm Springs, she picked up and brought back to life a few hotels—think The Art Hotel, The Tiki Hotel and The Cheetah Hotel. The Jerry and Tracy Turco Foundation is at work on an immersive Modernism Museum, complete with a bowling alley, roller rink and pizza place.
In addition, The Desert Sun reported in April that Desert Hot Springs has hired Tracy Turco to help rebrand its downtown as part of its revitalization program. It also reported she’s picked up three lots for future hotels there, including a “Cannabis Hotel” concept with a built-in dispensary.
