Coronavirus state tracker: California reported 65,717 new cases with 249 new deaths as of Dec. 28

According to California public heath websites, Monday’s end-of-day totals reported 65,717 new cases of the coronavirus in the state, bringing the total number of people who have been infected to 2,194,082.

Many county websites did not report their numbers over the weekend, which resulted in a high number of new cases reported.

There were also 249 new deaths reported, bringing the total number of people who have died in the state to 24,543.

An additional 598 patients were admitted into California hospitals, bringing the total number of hospitalizations to 21,240 statewide.

While ages 18 to 49 account for the majority of cases (59%), those ages 65 and older account for the majority of deaths (74%).

A majority of cases (56%) and deaths (47%) have occurred among Latinos.
