The state reported 32,191 new cases of the virus, bringing the total number of infections to 1,451,955, according to official totals from California public health websites as of Dec. 10.
There were also 198 new deaths reported in the state on Thursday, bringing the total number of deaths to 20,464.
Hospitalizations in the state rose by 512, bringing the total number of people infected by the coronavirus receiving hospital care to 12,477.
Three of the five California regions are under stay-at-home orders. The regions’ ICU hospital capacities are as follows:
- Northern California: 30.2%
- Greater Sacramento: 13.3%
- Bay Area: 17.8%
- San Joaquin Valley: 1.9%
- Southern California: 7.9%
Stay-at-home orders will be imposed within 24 hours for a region that has an ICU hospital capacity below 15%. They then stay in effect for at least three weeks.
The United States reported a record number of daily deaths, 3,111, bringing the total number of deaths nationwide to 288,013. There were 230,583 new cases reported in the U.S. with the total number of cases at more than 15.3 million.
