Coronavirus state tracker: 61 new deaths, hospitalizations decrease by 76 in California on Sept. 14

According to the California COVID-19 statewide update between Saturday and Sunday, there were 11 fewer patients needing to be in intensive care units.

Of the confirmed and suspected hospitalizations from the virus, there was a decrease of 76 from Sunday.

The number of coronavirus diagnostic test results in California reported Sunday was 116,173. The rate of positive tests over the last 14 days is 3.7 percent.

According to SCNG research of all county health dashboards in California there were about 4,724 new confirmed cases reported Monday. Numbers do not represent true day-over-day change, as these results include cases from prior to the previous day.

The total number of deaths statewide is 14,421, an increase of 61 people from Sunday.

Every county in California is assigned to a tier based on its test positivity and adjusted case rate. At a minimum, counties must remain in a tier for at least three weeks before moving to a less-restrictive tier, which would allow more businesses to operate indoors, or even just open, and could set the stage for schools to resume in-person learning.

Data is reviewed weekly and tiers are updated on Tuesdays. To move forward, a county must meet the next tier’s criteria for two consecutive weeks. If a county’s metrics worsen for two consecutive weeks, it will be assigned a more restrictive tier. Public health officials are constantly monitoring data and can step in if necessary, they say.

All data on the state tracker is preliminary and subject to change.
