The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 342 new cases of the coronavirus as of Sunday, Aug. 16, bringing the cumulative total to 43,709 cases.
Officials said a reporting issue at the state level appears to have been resolved and the total number of cases reported for Orange County is now accurate as of Wednesday’s report.
There was one new death reported in Orange County on Sunday, raising the death toll to 810 people.
The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigation and can take weeks to process, officials say. The most recent deaths were on Aug. 11.
Of the 810 deaths, 303 were skilled nursing facility residents, 47 were in assisted living facilities and one was listed as homeless.
According to the California Department of Health, there were at least 6,108 new cases of COVID-19 in Orange County in the 14-day period from Aug. 1 to Aug. 15.
It is estimated that more than three-quarters of the 43.709 reported cases have recovered. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
The county reports a total of 546,915 tests have been given since testing began, and at least 7,822 tests were reported in the last 24 hours.
The state agency also reports 495 hospitalized patients in the 14-day period from Aug. 1 to Aug. 15 (suspected and positive) in 33 hospitals across the county . This is a decrease of 19.9%. Hospitalizations in the county are about what they were in late June.
