The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 628 new cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday, Nov. 18, increasing the cumulative total in the county to 66,585 cases since tracking began.
An estimated 5,473 cases have been recorded in the last 14 days.
Two new deaths were reported by the county on Wednesday, raising the total number of reported deaths to 1,528.
Of the cumulative 1,528 deaths reported from the virus, 586 were skilled nursing facility residents, 121 were in assisted living facilities and five were listed as homeless.
The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:
85 and older: 32% (498, +1)75-84: 22% (331)65-74: 20% (302)55-64: 14% (212, +1)45-54: 8% (119)35-44: 3% (40)25-34: 1.3% (21)18-24: <.3% (4)17 and younger: 0% (1)
The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process, officials say. The most recent deaths were on Nov. 8.
It is estimated about 88% of the cumulative reported cases, or 57,094 people as of Wednesday, have recovered. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
The county update reported 1,278,834 tests have been given for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 8,753 tests reported in the last 24 hours.
The county also reported 291 patients in hospitals with the coronavirus on Wednesday – 21 more patients than in Tuesday’s report. The highest number of hospitalizations in Orange County was 722 on July 14. There were 90 patients listed in ICUs.
Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
