Coronavirus: 51 new deaths, 1,145 new cases in Orange County on Feb. 13

Fifty-one new deaths were reported by Orange County on Saturday, raising the total number of COVID-19 fatalities to 3,544. Since February 1, 482 deaths have been reported.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on Feb. 2.

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 1,145 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, increasing the cumulative total in the county to 242,144  cases since tracking began.

The county also reported 839 patients in local hospitals. There are 270 patients listed in intensive care units on Saturday, down 132 since Feb. 1. The hospital patient totals are about the same level as where they were at the beginning of December.

The California Department of Public Health vaccines dashboard shows that 472,915 vaccines doses have been distributed in Orange County as of Feb. 12.

An estimated 9,743 cases of the virus have been recorded in Orange County in the last 14 days.

The county update said 2,865,939 tests have been given for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 29,318 new tests since the previous report.

Of the cumulative 3,544 deaths reported from the virus, 896 were skilled nursing facility residents, 398 were in assisted living facilities, one was an O.C. jail inmate and six were listed as homeless.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 32.99% (1,169)
  • 75-84: 24.15% (856)
  • 65-74: 19.41% (688)
  • 55-64: 13.49% (478)
  • 45-54: 6.43% (228)
  • 35-44: 2.23% (79)
  • 25-34: 1.07% (38)
  • 18-24: 0.2% (7)
  • 17 and younger: 0.03% (1)

It is estimated 212,470 people have recovered from the virus as of Sunday. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
