Coronavirus: 309 new cases, nine new deaths in Orange County on Nov. 6

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 309 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, Nov. 6, increasing the cumulative total to 61,421 cases.

An estimated 3,095 cases have been recorded in the last 14 days, or 6 new cases per 100,000 residents.

Nine new deaths were reported by the county on Friday, bringing the total number of reported deaths to 1,503.

Of the cumulative 1,503 deaths reported from the virus, 571 were skilled nursing facility residents, 119 were in assisted living facilities and five were listed as homeless.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

85 and older: 32% (491)75-84: 22% (326)65-74: 20% (297)55-64: 14% (207)45-54: 8% (117)35-44: 3% (38)25-34: 1.3% (21)18-24: <.3% (5)17 and younger: 0% (1)

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process, officials say.

It is estimated about 89% of the cumulative reported cases, or 54,645  people as of Friday, have recovered. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.

The county update reported 1,160,473 tests have been given for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 12,034 tests reported in the last 24 hours.

The county also reported 177 patients in hospitals with the coronavirus on Friday. One fewer than the previous report. There were 72 patients listed in ICUs.

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
