Coronavirus: 29 new deaths, 3,259 new cases reported in Orange County on Jan. 11

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 3,259 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday, Jan.11, increasing the cumulative total in the county to 191,861 cases since tracking began.

There were 29 deaths reported by the county on Monday, raising the total number of reported deaths to 2,120. The most recent death recorded was on Jan. 4.

The county also reported 2,221 patients in local hospitals with the coronavirus on Monday.  That is an increase of five patients since the last report on Jan. 10.

There were 544 patients listed in intensive care units on Monday, a decrease of three since Sunday.

An estimated 39,802 cases of the virus have been recorded in Orange County in the last 14 days.

The county update said 2,283,663 tests have been given for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 26,231 new tests since the previous report.

Of the cumulative 2,120 deaths reported from the virus, 699 were skilled nursing facility residents, 235 were in assisted living facilities and four were listed as homeless.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 33.54% (711, up 12)
  • 75-84: 23.16% (491, up 7)
  • 65-74: 19.06% (404, up 6)
  • 55-64: 13.4% (284, up 1)
  • 45-54: 7.08% (150, up 2)
  • 35-44: 2.22% (47, up 1)
  • 25-34: 1.27% (27)
  • 18-24: 0.24% (5)
  • 17 and younger: 0.05% (1)

It is estimated about 117,211 people have recovered from the virus as of Monday. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.

As ICU capacity dwindles in Southern California the percentages in this graphic have been adjusted by state public health officials to represent the high levels of COVID-19 patients among all ICU patients. More actual beds may be available.

Vaccines administered

The California Department of Public Health site shows a total of 2,060,800 vaccine doses, which includes the first and second dose, have been shipped to local health departments and health care systems as of Jan. 8.

The totals of vaccines administered across six different regions are in the maps below. As of Jan. 11, a total of 783,476 vaccine doses have been administered statewide.That’s up 49,071 from Sunday’s report.
