Coronavirus: 253 new cases and two deaths reported in Orange County as of Aug. 4

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 253 new cases of the coronavirus, as of Tuesday, Aug. 4, bringing the county’s cumulative total of positive tests  to 38,066 cases.

The agency noted that the CalREDIE electronic laboratory reporting system has been experiencing issues with the application that receives test reports from laboratories and then sends them to CalREDIE.  The California Department of Public Health is trying to resolve the issue, which may be resulting in a lower number of daily COVID-19 positive cases received and tests reported recently. On Monday, the agency reported more than 17,000 tests that were in a back log.

It is estimated that more than half of the reported cases, or 26,234 as of Tuesday, have recovered. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.

There were two new deaths reported in Orange County on Tuesday, raising the death toll at 653.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigation and can take weeks to process, officials say. The most recent death was on July 31.

Of the 653 deaths, 271 were skilled nursing facility residents, 28 were in assisted living facilities and one was listed as homeless.
