Coronavirus: 1,187 new cases, 46 new deaths in Orange County as of Feb. 7

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 1,093 patients infected with the coronavirus in local hospitals as of Sunday, Feb. 7. That is 71 fewer than the previous day and a 51.4% decrease from the Jan. 6 high of 2,249 patients.

There were 335 patients listed in intensive care units on Sunday, a decrease of 12 people from the previous day.

The county reported 1,187 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday, increasing the cumulative total in the county to 238,264 cases since tracking began.

The agency reported 46 new deaths, bringing the total number of people who have died from the coronavirus to 3,358.

An estimated 22,912 cases of the virus have been recorded in Orange County in the last 14 days.

The county update said 2,781,473 tests have been given for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 14,423 new tests since the previous report.

Of the cumulative 3,359 deaths reported from the virus, 858 were skilled nursing facility residents, 371 were in assisted living facilities, one was an O.C. jail inmate and five were listed as homeless.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on Jan. 24.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

• 17 and younger: 0.06% (2, up 1)
• 18-24: 0.18% (6)
• 25-34: 1.10% (37)
• 35-44: 6% (75, up 1)
• 45-54: 6.52% (219, up 2)
• 55-64: 13.22% (444, up 4)
• 55-74: 19.18% (644, up 11)
• 75-84: 23.94% (804, up 12)
• 85 and older: 33.56% (1,127, up 3)

It is estimated 198,368 people have recovered from the virus as of Sunday. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
