Coranavirus: California reported 33,950 new cases, 173 new deaths as of Dec. 11

The state reported 33,950 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections to 1,485,905, according to official totals from California public health websites as of Dec. 11.

There were also 173 additional deaths reported in the state, bringing the total number of deaths to 20,673.

Hospitalizations in the state rose by 463, bringing the total number of people infected by the coronavirus receiving hospital care to 12,940.

Three of the five California regions are under stay-at-home orders. The regions’ ICU hospital capacities are as follows:

  • Northern California: 26.6%
  • Greater Sacramento: 14.8%
  • Bay Area: 16.7%
  • San Joaquin Valley: 4.5%
  • Southern California: 6.2%

Stay-at-home orders will be imposed within 24 hours for a region that has an ICU hospital capacity below 15%. They then stay in effect for at least three weeks.

The United States reported 223,908 new cases bringing the total number of cases to 15,542,506. There were 2,747 new deaths reported in the U.S., bringing the total number of deaths to 290,760.
