Cool by the coast, warm in inland areas of Southern California for Memorial Day weekend

Folks who planning to enjoy Memorial Day weekend outdoors have pleasant, fairly mild weather to look forward to, meteorologists said Thursday, May 27.

Forecasts show the the inland areas of Southern California will have sunny skies and high temperatures in the 80s, with cooler temperatures in the coastal areas with high temperatures in the low 70s with some marine layer in the mornings.

There could be some mild breezes in the afternoon, but nothing out of the ordinary, meteorologist Kathy Hoxsie said.

“It looks like a nice, warm weekend,” she said.

The nights and early mornings in coastal Los Angeles will be a bit cooler due to the marine layer, with lows in the high 50s. But the marine layer should burn off by the afternoon, she said.

There could be some strong rip currents in the waters off coastal Orange County, meteorologist Casey Oswant said.

The Inland Empire will start to warm up on Monday, into the high 80s, a warming trend that will continue through next week, Oswant said.
