SAN PEDRO >> A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued an injured crew member from a Navy destroyer offshore of Palos Verdes on Saturday night, Jan. 27.
Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach was notified at around 6:30 p.m. that a 20-year-old crew member had a leg injury aboard the USS Spruance, a Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.
A MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Forward Operating Base Mugu was dispatched to transport the injured man to a hospital, according to a Coast Guard news release.
The man was hoisted by the helicopter crew and taken to the Torrance Airport before paramedics transported him to the Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
No information about how the injury occurred or other details were immediately available.
