SANTA ANA — California Highway Patrol officers on Wednesday asked for the public’s help tracking down a hit-and-run driver who caused a deadly crash on the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway.
The crash happened about 2:25 p.m. Saturday on the freeway just north of the Garden Grove (22) Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Tino Olivera.
Seon Ho Choi, 69, of Apple Valley, was killed in the crash, according to Carrie Braun of the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
The suspect was driving a white sedan south on the 55 Freeway and cut off a 2015 Mazda 6, causing its driver to swerve and slam into the right side of a 2010 Toyota Sienna, with Choi in the passenger seat, according to the CHP.
The Toyota then crashed into a 2017 Honda Pilot, which slammed into a center divider.
The Toyota also hit the center divider and rolled over multiple times.
The Toyota’s driver, Dae Yung Choi, 73, of Apple Valley, was hospitalized, according to the CHP, but the other motorists escaped injury.
Anyone with information was asked to call officers at (714) 567-6000.
