Children’s Hospital of Orange County can now serve as a Level II pediatric trauma center, the only one in the county that focuses exclusively on children, according to a statement issued by the hospital.
As a Level II pediatric trauma center, CHOC provides a number of services including 24-hour coverage by board-certified pediatric trauma surgeons and quick access to pediatric specialties including orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine, plastic surgery, oral surgery and critical care.
With its Level II status, CHOC will now treat pediatric trauma patients from all over the county.
CHOC spokeswoman Andrea Hanigan said Thursday, March 1, that Mission Hospital’s trauma program recently received its pediatric Level II certification in partnership with CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital. But CHOC, in Orange, is the only trauma center that is solely pediatric.
The statement says CHOC submitted an extensive application and trauma data and passed a site visit from a team of surgeons in order to earn its status.
