Car breaks down, Pasadena mayor, actor Danny Trejo, forced to walk in Rose Parade

Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo and actor Danny Trejo’s vehicle malfunctioned in the 134th Rose Parade, forcing the pair to trek at least a bit of the 5.5-mile procession down Colorado Boulevard on Monday, Jan. 2.

Gordo — whose city is hosting the parade — was travelling down the route in a 1907 Autocar bus, joined by family and close friends like Trejo.

Once used to haul passengers up to Pike’s Peak Hotel in Colorado, the Autocar bus has a top speed of 18 mph. The bus was found back east in 1980 and restored over six years by the owner’s father. It has been featured in many movies, including “Titanic” and “Around the World in 80 Days.”

“The mayor’s car he was riding in had a mechanical failure,” Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian said. “So he’s walking with Danny Trejo right now and they’re assessing if they can put them all in another vehicle.”

Gordo could be seen waving alongside Trejo in good spirits despite the morning’s bus breakdown.

Around 9:15 a.m., Gordo and the group was back on the airbus being towed.

Trejo, however, was still walking, according to city leaders.
