Buena Park police officer fires at suspect on 91 Freeway when vehicle backs up into him

A Buena Park police officer fired at a suspect Friday evening during a traffic stop on the 91 Freeway in Fullerton where police said the suspect backed into the officer, injuring him, before driving away.

The motorcycle patrol officer had pulled over a white, four-door 2015 Infiniti sedan on the westbound lanes of the freeway near Brookhurst Street at 6:45 p.m., said Buena Park police Sgt. Mario Escamilla. He was unable to say why the officer had stopped the Infiniti.

During the traffic stop, Escamilla said, the car backed into the officer, hitting the officer and prompting him to shoot at the vehicle. The suspect, who remains outstanding, drove away.

The vehicle was last seen transitioning onto northbound I-5, according to the California Highway Patrol.
