HUNTINGTON BEACH — A woman’s body washed ashore Thursday, Feb. 8, in Huntington Beach, but it hasn’t been determined if it’s that of a swimmer missing since Tuesday night, authorities said.
The body was discovered around 12:50 p.m. near lifeguard Tower 7, Huntington Beach Police Lt. J. Haught said.
As of Thursday night, the woman had not been identified, he added.
The U.S. Coast Guard, police lifeguards and Harbor Patrol had been searching for 18-year-old Jessy Cook since about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, Coast Guard officials announced they had suspended the search after failing to find her.
“The Coast Guard and partner agencies searched for approximately 11 hours covering nearly 137 square nautical miles,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.
The search involved both boats and helicopters.
Cook was last seen in the water off Huntington Beach Pier.
