Bicyclist fatally struck in Fountain Valley; driver accused of manslaughter

A driver was arrested Saturday, Jan. 15, after a 71-year-old bicyclist was fatally struck by what Fountain Valley police said was a drunken, hit-and-run driver.

The bicyclist was identified as Liem Bui of Santa Ana.

The collision happened at about 5:39 a.m. Saturday. Officers found Bui dead in the southbound lanes of Euclid Avenue just north of Heil Avenue.

Although the car that struck Bui fled, police said, investigators were able to identify it. Police said they found the car in Westminster with 32-year-old Amanda Martin of Fountain Valley in the driver’s seat.

Martin was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Police asked witnesses to call them at 714-593-4481.
